AFTER last weekend’s Munster action, it is a return to league fare this weekend in the Limerick District League.

There is no doubt what takes top billing as Premier League leaders Fairview Rgs visit second placed Ballynanty Rovers in Ballynanty Park.

Both sides come into the tie on the back of comfortable win in the Provincial tournament last weekend. Balla hit Newport for six while Fairview recorded a 5-0 win over Kilmallock.

Fairview lead the way by two points by virtue of Balla’ and Pike Rvs drawing their game in the Pike Field.
Balla’ will be aware they cannot afford to let the Champions pull further away and their form suggests they are capable of getting a result.

The addition of former Pallas United striker Vinny Ryan has been a game changer for Derek Braddish’s men. His hat trick last weekend sends him to joint top scorer in the league.

It’s not only his goals but his hold up play is a godsend to an attack minded Balla side.

Fairview’s Darragh Rainsford is also joint top scorer in the league and he too is having a superb start to the campaign. Last season’s player of the year, finished the season on the injured list but has come out of the traps at full speed this term.

Pike Rovers, the only other side unbeaten to date, will be looking to keep pace with the top two when they visit Boro. Pike saw off Corbally last Sunday to advance in the MFA Cup. At the same time Boro crashed out after a penalty shoot-out versus Mungret Regional.

Pike added a new striker Ruari Morgan and he made quite the impact last Sunday, opening the scoring with his second touch of the ball after two minutes. When he beds in at the Hoops he looks a real threat.

The midfield battle between Shane Duggan and Shane Walsh could have a bearing on service to the danger men.

Janesboro have been inconsistent to date but on their day they can compete with anyone. They also have Shane Clarke in the ranks, which always gives you a chance.

Mungret Regional have lost just once in their seven starts but four draws has pinned them in midtable. There is a buzz in the club and they are improving by the game.

Athlunkard Villa also progressed ion the MFA last weekend, winning 3-1 after going a goal behind in the first minute. One defeat in their last four shows they are finding their feet at the top table and will fancy their chances against Paul Danaher’s men.

Aisling Annacotty will be looking to keep their good run going when they visit Corbally Utd and in the final Premier League game on Saturday evening Regional Utd A host Geraldines.

In the Premier A league, joint leaders Kilmallock Utd welcome third placed Newport.
Both sides suffered bad defeats last weekend so will be keen to return their focus to league matters.

Fellow joint leaders Carew Park are on the road to meet Caherdavin Celtic.

There are a couple of important games in Division 1A, Leaders Herbertstown A welcome Aisling D, Murroe A host Caherconlish while Shelbourne A are at home to Ballylanders.

Ballynanty Rovers B can take top spot in Division 1B if they can beat Glenview Rvs at TUS.
