THE Jack Tuohy Cup final is scheduled for this Saturday evening when Regional United take on Aisling Annacotty with a 6.30pm kick-off in Jackman Park.
The Premier League cup is first silverware of the season on offer and promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Both sides come into the tie in good form. Last weekend Aisling defeated Caherdavin 2-0 while Regional also had two goals to spare in their game at Ballylanders winning 3-1.
Aisling will be delighted that Conor Coughlan made his return to action last Sunday after an absence of a couple of weeks. Tom Kidd hobbled out of the Oscar Traynor’s last game with an ankle injury and had not played since. He will be a huge loss if he does not make the line up.
Regional United will again look to their stalwart Kieran O’Connell who has bagged 16 goals to date this season.
One of the most consistent players over the last 15 years, he is admired by team mates and opposition alike. Alongside him in the middle is Ewan O’Brien, who has developed into an all-action and effective player for the Reds.
Regional Utd began their road to the final with a 2-1 win over Ballynanty Rovers thanks to a brace of goals from Kieran O'Connell. In the semi-final an Adam Fitzpatrick goal secured a 1-1 draw with local rivals Mungret Reg before advancing on penalties.
Aisling Annacotty had a tougher route to the final. A thrilling 3-2 win over Pike Rovers was secured with goals from Joel Coustrain (2) and Conor Coughlan while in the semi final they saw off Fairview 2-1 thanks to scores from Joel Coustrain and Adam Costello. Note the earlier kick off time of 6.30pm.
The Premier League took a big twist on Sunday when Pike Rvs dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Geraldines.
The result leaves the destination of the Fran Mullally Trophy in the hands of leaders Fairview Rgs. However there is still much to play for and the two hopefuls still have to meet each other again.
This weekend Fairview Rgs, on a high following last Sunday’s thrilling FAI win in Donegal welcome a struggling Carew Park side where a home win is expected.
Pike Rvs host a Nenagh side smarting from a Lawson Cup exit at the hands of Corbally Utd.
Robbie Williams will be seeking a better showing from the Hoops which will not be good news for the Tipperary side.
In the Lawson Cup, Janesboro will be looking to get the disappointment of narrow defeats in the MFA and FAI in recent weeks when they make the short trip to Southend where the winners will meet Regional Untd in the quarter finals.
In the Premier A League, leaders Athlunkard Villa look to keep their Premier League charge on track when they host Kilmallock.
In-form Corbally Utd welcome Summerville Rvs where a win would see them open up a seven-point gap on third placed Caherdavin.
The Div 1A promotion races is heating up after last weekend’s results. Murroe, with a couple of games in hand, can overtake Star in second if they win their games in hand. They face a difficult task at home to Pallas Utd on Sunday while Star Rvs will be looking to get back on track at home to Granville Rgs.
The gap at the top of Division 1B will be 11 points if Herbertstown can win at Newport.
In the Open Cup Fairview C host Abbey Rvs with a place in semi finals on offer for the winners. Lough Derg welcome Kilmallock B with the winners at home to Balla B in the semi-final.
The Ger Ryan Youth Cup is down to the semi-final stage with both ties scheduled for Sunday. Holycross welcome Regional Utd is what promises to be a cracker. Likewise Shelbourne who host high flying Pike Rvs.
In the Youth Premier League, Fairview Rgs will be hoping to keep their slim title hopes alive when they host Aisling Annacotty.
In Youth Division 1, leaders Kilmallock travel to Geraldines while challengers, Caherconlish and Pike Rovers face Aisling Annacotty B and Murroe respectively.
