Adverse weather forecast hits weekend Limerick District League fixture schedule

The LDL has cancelled all fixtures this weekend due to adverse weather forecast

THE current cold snap and adverse weather forecast for this weekend has resulted in the Limerick District and Limerick Desmond Leagues opting to cancel all fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

In a statement issued this Friday lunchtime, the Limerick District League announced their decision to call off all fixtures under their auspices this Saturday and Sunday.

An Status Orange warning for snow and ice has been issued by Met Eireann for six counties, including Limerick.

The warning will be in effect from 5pm tomorrow, Saturday to 5pm on Sunday and also includes counties Tipperary, Clare, Carlow, Kilkenny and Wicklow as well as Limerick.

The statement from the LDL issued this Friday read: "Due to the current weather conditions and weather forecasts for the coming weekend, the LDL has made the decision to cancel all fixtures for the weekend of 4th/5th Jan 2025.

"This applies to both grass and astro pitches.

This decision was taken due to the changing weather forecast and weather warnings and to take health and safety into consideration."

Meanwhile, the Limerick Desmond League also confirmed on Friday that it had called 'called off all its games this weekend because of the Status Orange warning issued by Met Eireann.'

"The MFA has called off Limerick Desmond's Oscar Traynor game away to Waterford on Sunday for the same reason, and refixed it for Sunday, 26 January."
