PREMIER DIVISION
Hyde Rangers 1 Aisling Annacotty 0
HYDE Rgs produced a superb performance to stun Premier League Champions, Aisling Annacotty with a 1-0 win at Hyde’s grounds on Sunday morning.
Alex Kiely headed home what proved to be the only goal of the game after 20 minutes, but thereafter the Maroon and Blues had to withstand 70 minutes of the champions chasing an equaliser.
The home side’s chances were not helped when they were reduced to ten men just after the restart, but the whole squad turned in a huge effort as grit, determination, skill and luck all came into play before Derek Walsh’s side sealed a memorable win.
The result was even more remarkable when one considers the number of players Hyde have out injured at the moment.
Hyde introduced 19-year-old Sam Guerin for his debut in goals and many feared he faced a baptism of fire as Aisling were determined to make amends for their midweek defeat to Pike Rvs.
However, the youngster stood tall to the challenge and a couple of saves from Conor Carew helped to ensure a clean sheet.
The only goal of the game came after 20 minutes following a foul of the hard-working Calum Murphy. David Power’s free kick was met by Kiely at the back post and his downward header found it’s target.
Aisling dominated possession but seemed to run out of ideas once they hit the wall that was the Hyde rearguard and they will be need a quick recharge if they hope to retain their title.
