PREMIER LEAGUE:

Newport 3 Geraldines 7

AFTER the first round of matches, the chatter was that Geraldines would struggle this season.

However, on Sunday morning they surprised even their own supporters with a top-drawer performance that earned them three valuable points.

The home side looked to be on their way when a Christy Doyle double had them well in control.
Jake Leamy pulled a goal back for the Dines before the break and just after the restart Muhin Jelle levelled the tie. Amosi Oku gave the visitors the lead before Jelle netted to make it 4-2.

Elliot Slattery scored from a free kick to reduce the deficit, but ‘Dines had the last say when Jake Leamy scored another couple to complete his hat trick and Nathan Cross rounded off a memorable win.

Carew Park 1 Janesboro 0

ANOTHER side reported to be likely to face a testing season were Carew Park. Like Geraldines, they confounded the ‘experts’ with a gutsy performance that saw them lower the colours of Janesboro.

The skillful Jonathan Moran scored the only goal of the game to win the points for his side.

Carew Park: Evan Moloney; Shane Heffernan; Jackson Morey; Scott McEvoy; Niall Hogan; Pat Boyle; Jonathan Moran; Logan O'Byrne; Sam Riordan; Reece Moran; Jamie Cross. Subs: Lee Nolan; Alex Johnson.

Mungret Reg 4 Hyde Rgs A 3

MUNGRET Regional took the points at home to Hyde Rgs in a high scoring game.

The home side raced into a three-goal lead through Hamza Selman Celik and a double from Cian McNicholas.

Ben Kennedy pulled one back before the break for Hyde. After the restart Dave Thompson made it a one-goal game.

Hamza Selman Celik restored Mungret’s two goal advantage and while Hyde did pull it back to one when Kevin Slattery scored, it proved just short of the visitors taking something from the tie.

Regional Utd 1 Nenagh AFC 1

REGIONAL and Nenagh played out an entertaining 90 minutes in Dooradoyle on Sunday when the sides shared the spoils.

Regional will be disappointed to have conceded an equaliser so late in the game but credit must go to the visitors who never gave up the fight and got their reward.

Joe Lavan put Regional ahead after 20 minutes side footing home after Nenagh keeper Aaron Savage had made a super save to deny Ciaran Downey.

The visitors went all out for the equaliser after the restart and just when it looked like the home side might prevail, Eoin Coffey blasted in from close range to earn a deserved point.

Regional Utd: Vinny Browne; Jack O'Donovan; Oran Flanagan; Andrew Cowpar; David Cowpar; Paudie Hartigan; Kieran O'Connell; Ewan O'Brien; Marcus Hogan; Ciaran Downey; Joe Lavan. Subs: Sean Oyibo; Brian Monaghan; Eoghan O'Donovan.
