UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK sealed a home Fitzgibbon Cup quarter final next week after they defeated DCU 4-24 to 1-20 in Dublin on Wednesday evening. 

UL remain strong contenders to regain the Fitzgibbon Cup, underlined by their inter-county quality throughout the team.

The reigning Fitzgibbon cup champions will face UCC or the Garda College in the last eight. The Garda College host UCC on Thursday afternoon in Templemore.

Limerick hurler Adam English was in fine form, finishing with a tally of 2-1, while Aidan O’Connor contributed 0-6. Colin Coughlan and Cathal O’Neill marshalled the half-back line from their wing-back positions, with Fintan Fitzgerald teaming up with English in midfield. Brian Ryan also made effective use of his bench, introducing Joe Fitzgerald and Darragh Langan for the Castletroy outfit.

Offaly senior Adam Screeney struck for a crucial goal just before the break, leaving UL narrowly ahead at 2-11 to 1-11 at half-time. The Limerick college stretched their advantage in the closing stages, leading 3-16 to 1-16 with ten minutes remaining. English added his second goal on 54 minutes, before late scores from Oisín O’Donoghue, Jack O’Neill and Darragh McCarthy sealed a comprehensive twelve point victory for Brian Ryan's side. 

UL scorers: Adam English (2-1), Aidan O'Connor 0-6 (0-1 free, 0-1 65); Darragh McCarthy (1-2), Adam Screeney (1-1), Jack O'Neill (0-5), Oisin O'Donoghue and Jamie Ormond (0-2 each), Keith Smyth, Oisin Fitzgerald, Cathal O'Neill, Conor Martin and Darragh Langan (0-1 each).
