CLARE senior hurling star Diarmuid Ryan said clashes with Limerick are always special hurling games for him.
Especially for Ryan who lives on the border in Cratloe and he attended secondary school in Ardscoil Rís and college in Mary Immaculate College.
“I would have hurled Harty Cup with Cathal O'Neill when he was in third year and I was in sixth year. You'd know a lot of them through that, being on the border you always grew up on that rivalry and you knew how important Limerick and Clare games were,” said Diarmuid Ryan at the launch of the Munster senior hurling league.

“I did a lot of my living in Limerick, that's where the competitive nature comes from. Ardscoil were very good to me in terms of laying a path for my hurling career and Mary I aswell winning a Fitzgibbon with them and I played with a lot of the Limerick lads there. It's friends while your playing Fitzgibbon and then it's all forgotten about when you are playing in the Munster championship.”
After a disappointing 2025 where Clare failed to qualified out of the Munster senior hurling championship, the Banner county are eager to put things right in 2026.
“It was a bit frustrating overall and on a personal point of view, we are just going to look forward now to 2026 and we took what we can from last year and just power now from the third of January and hopefully we will be there come July and that's the way everyone is going to be looking at it,” added Ryan.
