GLENROE and Granagh-Ballingarry meet in Limerick premier intermediate hurling championship this evening in Kilmallock at 7pm. Glenroe just avoided relegation to the intermediate grade last year, while Granagh-Ballingarry were unlucky to miss on reaching the knockout stages of the competition.

Former Limerick hurler David McCarthy feels the aim for Glenroe this year is to be more competitive across the round-robin series.

“To be more competitive, last year we were competitve for 15 or 20 minutes for four or five of the games. We fell off in every second half and we performed poorly overall. I suppose, it's to be competitive in three, four and five games and hopefully scrape a couple of wins. And try get into the middle of the table,” said David McCarthy.

Granagh-Ballingarry's Luke Flynn felt last year gave the west Limerick club time to establish themselves as a premier intermediate club.

“We were well able to compete with some of the top teams and I think looking back on some of the games we were disappointed with how they went. We deinitely feel like we are good enough for everyone who we face,” said Luke Flynn.

Paudie Murphy and Luke Flynn are crucial players for Granagh-Ballingarry. David McCarthy and Darren Frewen will hoping they can guide Glenroe to a positive start in this year's championship.

Verdict: Granagh-Ballingarry
