TWO multiple All-Ireland senior hurling medal winners with Limerick played starring roles as Ireland retained the Mowi Quaich Cup after a thrilling extra-time victory over Scotland in their Shinty fixture at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday.
Ahane brothers Tom and Dan Morrissey were members of the Ireland squad which defeated the Scots 3-16 to 5-7 after a highly entertaining contest.
Ireland brought a 20-man squad to Co Clare including players from all five tiers of the game as they chased a ninth series win.
Scotland led 2-2 to 0-1 after 18 minutes but the first of three goals from Kilkenny's Eoin Cody three minutes later hauled Ireland back.
The half-time score was 2-4 to 1-4 to the visitors. Ireland drew level by the 65th minute. The home side had moved two points clear before Scotland sent the game to extra-time thanks to a dramatic late goal.
Ireland's strong showing in the first half of extra time then proved crucial in their success.
