FORMER Limerick hurling captain Donal O'Grady is set to become the new manager of the Limerick minor hurling team.
O'Grady has been a selector with the Limerick senior hurling team since 2020. The former Limerick hurler has left his role with the senior hurlers to take over the minor hurling team.
The Granagh-Ballingarry native is set to take over from his former inter-county teammate Shane Dowling.
Ger Kelleher, Tom Murphy, Brian Sexton, Jody Hannon and Liam Reale are all set to be part of O'Grady's management team.
Ger Kelleher previously managed his own club Dromin-Athlacca. Offaly native Tom Murphy is part of the Doon senior hurling management team under Derek McGrath this year. Murphy previously managed the Doon senior hurling team in 2018.
Jody Hannon brother of Limerick senior hurling captain Declan Hannon and Bruree clubman Brian Sexton are also part of this year's minor management team. Hannon and Sexton were involved with the academy squads this year.
Liam Reale has been involved with the Castletroy College Harty Cup team. The Hospital/Herbertstown clubman joins O'Grady's management team.
It was disappointing year for Limerick minor hurling in 2024. The Shannonsiders failed to win a game in the Munster minor hurling championship round-robin series. Donal O'Grady is set to be ratified as the new Limerick minor hurling manager at the next County Board later this month.
Ardscoil Rís, Castletroy College, John The Baptist, Hospital and Scoil Na Troinoide Naofa, Doon are all taking part in this year's Dr Harty Cup which gets underwway on October 16.
O'Grady will hope to see some of his Limerick minor hurling panel in action during the post primary schools competition.
Granagh-Ballingarry manager Micheal Clancy is delighted to see O'Grady take over the minor hurling team.
"It's huge for the club. We're very proud of Donal. He has been with the Limerick seniors and he's been captain of Limerick back in the day. For him to take over the Limerick minors is a huge fillet for the club. We all wish him well. The likes of Donal flying the flag for us means a lot aswell" said Clancy.
