PATRICKSWELL and Kilmallock have booked their places in this weekend's Bon Secours Limerick senior hurling championship semi-finals.
Patrickswell will face Doon in the first of the Limerick SHC semi-finals on Sunday next, October 13 at 1pm in Kilmallock.
Kilmallock will then take on reigning county champions Na Piarsaigh on the same day at 4pm in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale.
The winners of both semi-finals will face off in this year's county final on Sunday, October 27.
Patrickswell defeated Monaleen 0-20 to 0-18 in the Limerick SHC quarter-final in Bruff yesterday afternoon. Diarmaid Byrnes and Patrick Kirby impressed in the ‘Well's victory. Kirby and Byrnes scored 0-3 each in the tight game.
Ciaran Carey's Patrickswell side trailed 0-16 to 0-14 on 46 minutes, but Patrickswell finished the game strongly and hung on for a narrow two-point victory.
In the end, Kilmallock defeated Ballybrown also by two points, 1-22 to 2-17, in the other Limerick SHC quarter-final in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Sunday evening.
It was a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout the 60 minutes.
Kilmallock led by one point, 0-10 to 0-9, at half-time. Ballybrown levelled matters on 35 minutes when Bryan Griffin kicked the sliotar into the top corner of the net for a goal.
However, 12 minutes later, Limerick hurler Shane O'Brien scored a goal of his own to put Kilmallock 1-15 to 1-13 ahead.
The South Limerick side kept their lead for the rest of the second half and Kilmallock hung on to claim a precious victory.
Four teams now remain in the hunt to lift the John Daly Cup.
The semi-finalists have also been confirmed for the Lyons of Limerick premier intermediate hurling championship. Bruff, Effin, Garryspillane and Newcastle West have all advanced into the semi-finals of the competition which takes place this Saturday, October 12.
Newcastle West take on Effin in the first of the premier intermediate hurling championship semi-finals at 2pm in Kilmallock. Garryspillane face Bruff in the other semi-final at 4pm.
