FIVE rounds of the Limerick senior hurling championship have been played, Doon and Na Piarsaigh have advanced directly into the Limerick SHC semi-finals. Kilmallock face Ballybrown and Patrickswell take on Monaleen in this year's quarter-finals.
Newcastle West have progressed into the knockout stages of the premier intermediate hurling championship. Effin, Garryspillane, Bruff and Granagh Ballingarry all remain in contention to reach the semi-finals of the PIHC.
Na Piarsaigh and Glenroe meet in a relegation decider this Friday night at 8pm. The winner will retain their status and the loser will be relegated to intermediate hurling for the 2025 season.
Here we take a look at five players who have impressed throughout the championship.
1. Robbie Hanley (Kilmallock)
Robbie Hanley has previously be involved with the Limerick senior hurling panel in the past. Hanley missed the first two rounds of the SHC against Doon and Mungret St Paul's. Since his return he has made a significant impact for Kilmallock in particular against Patrickswell in round five of the SHC where he chipped in with 0-3.
2. Patrick Kirby (Patrickswell)
Aaron Gillane has missed the last two games for Patrickswell through injury, in the last two games Patrick Kirby has stepped up to the plate. Kirby has landed 2-13 in the last three games and the Patrickswell sharpshooter has looked a real threat inside for the Well.
3. Aidan O'Connor (Ballybrown)
Aidan O'Connor has been the form forward throughout the club championship. O'Connor has been central in Ballybrown gaining promotion to group one of the Limerick senior hurling championship for the 2025 season. The Limerick senior hurler has been on target with 3-52 in the five group games for his club. The Ballybrown clubman looks primed to see increasesd gametime for the Treaty county in 2025.
4. Ethan Hurley (Newcastle West)
Newcastle West have looked a step above every team in the premier intermediate hurling championship. The Magpies have won their six opening group games in this year's championship. Ethan Hurley was part of the Limerick senior hurling panel during last year's National league campaign. Hurley has excelled in the number six role for Newcastle West this year.
5. Patrick O'Donovan (Effin)
Effin sit in third place on eight points in the premier intermediate hurling championship. Early on last year, Patrick O'Donovan has been part of the Limerick senior hurling panel. O'Donovan has been central for Effin this year where he has popped up with crucial scores.
