LIMERICK's senior hurling stars have returned to their clubs with the county's club hurling championships getting underway later this week.
While the County Premier Intermediate championship gets underway on Thursday evening with the meeting of Granagh-Ballingarry and Newcastle West, much of the focus will be on the start of the county senior hurling championship a week later on Thursday, August 1.
Among the highlights in Group 1 of the senior hurling championship is the meeting of holders Na Piarsaigh and Patrickswell in a repeat of last year's county final.
That opening round fixture is due to take place at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Friday, August 2 at 7pm. Na Piarsaigh emerged victorious on a 1-20 to 0-19 scoreline when the teams met in the 2023 county final at the end of last October.
The action in Group 1 of the senior hurling championship gets underway on Thursday, August 1 with the meeting of last year's beaten county finalists Doon and Kilmallock also at the TUS Gaelic Grounds at 7pm.
The opening round Group 1 action will conclude with the meeting of reigning senior B champions Mungret St Paul's and Ahane in Claughaun on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm.
The top two teams in Senior A reach the Limerick SHC semi-finals. Third and fourth in Senior A play the teams that finish in first and second in Senior B in the Limerick SHC quarter-finals. Similar to Senior A, Senior B sees six teams compete against each other in a round-robin series.
The Group 2 action sees South Liberties and last year's premier intermediate champions Dromin-Athlacca face-off in Kilmallock on Thursday, August 1, 7pm, with Adare and Kildimo-Pallaskenry going head-to-head at Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale on Friday, August 2, also 7pm.
The round one action in Group 2 is completed by the meeting of city divisional rivals Monaleen and Ballybrown in Mungret on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm.
The Premier IHC which begins later this week is a round-robin series with each team playing seven games and the top four teams advance into the last four stage of the competition.
In the opening round games in the premier intermediate hurling championship this week, Granagh-Ballingarry face Newcastle West at the Bog Garden on Thursday, 7pm, while Glenrow face Na Piarsaigh in Caherconlish on Friday at 7pm.
Elsewhere, in the PIHC, Effin face Garryspillane in Bruff on saturday, 7pm.
