UL WILL play the University of Galway in the 2023 Fitzgibbon Cup Final after both college's won their respective semi-finals on Thursday evening.

Brian Ryan's UL side earned a hard-fought win against SETU Waterford, while the University of Galway needed extra-time to beat UCC.

The final is a repeat of the 2022 decider that saw UL win by 1-21 to 2-15. The final takes place tomorrow at the SETU Waterford Complex. Throw in as at 1pm.

UL will be hoping for a better performance than the one they put in last night. They needed 13 points from Gearóid O'Connor to navigate their way over a well-drilled Waterford side.

The game was all square at 0-12 apiece after a tense first half but UL outscored their hosts by seven to four to book their spot in the 2023 final. Limerick's Colin Coughlan and Adam English both played for UL. Coughlan landed three trademark points in the victory.

Up to that point, UL had cruised through their Fitzgibbon Cup fixtures. They had comfortable victories over ATU Galway and TUS Midwest in the group stages and then saw off UCD on a 4-19 to 0-10 scoreline in their quarter-final.

Bryan O'Mara is again captain of the team this year at centre-back. The UL side has a strong spine with TJ Brennan, O'Mara, O'Connor and Michael Kiely in the central positions.

UL missed the trickery of Mark Rodgers against Waterford and Brian Ryan will be hopeful that the Clare forward is ready to return for the final.

The University of Galway have beaten SETU Carlow, UCC (group stages), MTU Cork, SETU Waterford and then UCC again to reach the final. Evan Niland has been their star man throughout.

UL versus the University of Galway has a 1pm throw-in at SETU Waterford's Sports Complex and is live on TG4.
