€20 horse racing treble could make you a small fortune before the weekend

€20 horse racing treble could make you a small fortune before the weekend

The National Hunt horse racing season is back in Ireland and across the water in the UK and a number of high profile horses will race at Cheltenham and Wexford here at home on Friday.

There is some good value to be had in the betting markets with some intriguing runners, including Cheltenham Festival winners and a horse taking to fences for the first time.

Our man has picked out these three horses for a cross-the-card double:

Petit Tonnerre (3/1) - 2.20pm, Cheltenham, Friday, November 17

This horse shaped well enough over hurdles but is built for chasing and has one of the best in the business training him in the shape of Jonjo O'Neill. Owned by JP McManus, Petit Tonnerre was last seen over hurdles at Cheltenham when he wasn't a million miles behind the likes of Pied Piper and Sharjah. He'll be better over fences and despite this being his first crack at the larger obstacles, he marks good value at 3/1 in a trappy four-runner contest.

Delta Work (9/4) - 2.55pm, Cheltenham, Friday, November 17

This horses needs little introduction having beaten Tiger Roll in his swansong at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival before repeating the trick and beating his stablemate Galvin in the same race at the Festival in March this year. He's become a cross country and Cheltenham specialist having been a a high-class chaser for much of his career. He'll no doubt be going for a hat-trick of Cross Country wins at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival and this is the first step in that process. This is a hard race to win conceding weight as he has to do on Friday and he lost a similar event to Back On The Lash in January this year, but with Keith O'Donoghue up and given a considered ride, he'll be hard to beat, especially given the current form of the Gordon Elliott yard.

Bronn (5/6) - 2pm, Wexford, Friday, November 17

On this side of the water on Friday, Bronn is one of the star attractions for trainer Willie Mullins at Wexford on Friday. Paul Townend will take the ride and this one will be very hard to beat if reproducing the form of his last two runs. When last seen, he was 10 lengths behind recent Down Royal champion chase winner Gerri Colombe, one of the favourites for the Cheltenham Gold Cup next year. Bronn also finished third behind The Real Whacker (Gerri Colombe second) in the Brown Advisory at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year. This will be the first step for him on the road back to Cheltenham and it's very hard to see any of his five rivals turning him over on Friday.

A €20 treble bet on these three horses all to win would return around €370 at the current odds
