Bernard Gloster, from Kildimo, is the new CEO of the HSE
LIMERICK man Bernard Gloster has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the HSE.
The current head of TUSLA is expected to take up his role in the spring and will replace Paul Reid.
The Kildimo man worked in the HSE for thirty years and was chief officer of the HSE Mid-West before being appointed to the position of chief executive of TUSLA in 2019.
Mr Gloster originally trained as a social care worker, and worked for a number of years in childcare services. He was a senior health manager in acute and community care for 16 years.
He holds a MSc in Management Practice from UCC and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University.
In a statement released by the HSE, Mr Gloster said he was looking forward to his new role.
"I am very privileged to have been selected by the HSE to be the chief executive of an organisation of such vital importance to the public.
"Working with such a large and diverse workforce committed to providing the best in health and social care brings many opportunities for continuous improvement in how people access and experience services.
"I look forward to working with the board, my HSE colleagues, partners across the wider system as well as with the Minister and the Department on the health reform agenda."
Minister of State Niall Collins said Mr Gloster's appointment is "fantastic".
"Previously Bernard held leadership roles both nationally and locally within the HSE.
"His role in completely rehabilitating and reorganising TUSLA will stand to him hugely. I think that he is really well qualified and really well equipped to deal with the many challenges which the HSE are dealing with as well as the opportunities they have".
