The sergeant told the court that Mr Abdiqani has no previous convictions.

Solicitor John Herbert, representing the man, told Judge Patricia Harney that Mr Abdiqani has been in Ireland for a year, and works as a kitchen porter.

Mr Herbert said that “money is tight” and that Mr Abdiqani “felt he wasn’t listened to” at the betting shop.

The judge decided to give the man the benefit of the Probation Act, in light of his previous good record.
