A TOTAL of 24 scholarships were presented to former students of Coláiste Mhichíl CBS on Sexton Street from the Leaving Certificate classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The students were awarded in a ceremony that took place at Adare Manor on Friday, November 25.
The JP McManus Scholarships, which are administered by a number of trustees, were first established in 1996 and since then a total of 209 students have been awarded scholarships to fund their third-level education.
This year, Mr. Niall Collins TD, Minister of State for Skills and Further Education presented the students from 2020, 2021 and 2022 with their JP McManus scholarship awards.
The Guest of Honour at the ceremony was former Coláiste Mhichíl pupil, Limerick Senior Hurler and PwC All–Star Hurler of the Year for 2022 Diarmaid Byrnes.
Diarmaid said: “Don’t underestimate your value and stay honest to yourself. Being yourself, the bright students that you are, will stand the test of time and you’ll go a long way.
“If I can offer any advice going forward, it’s to be yourself, be nice, be honest and enjoy it," Diarmaid said.
Now in its twenty-sixth year, the scholarship scheme is administered by four trustees, - Coláiste Mhichíl retired principals Noel Earlie and Eddie Fallon, chartered accountant Gerard Boland and retired sales manager and former All-Star hurler Pat Hartigan.
