LIMERICK City and County Council picked up three awards at the Chamber Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.
The award wins came from five nominations on the night, which saw Limerick City and County Council’s work honoured at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin, in what was the first in person awards since Covid-19.
The three wins came in the Supporting Sustainable Communities, Promoting Economic Development and the Enhancing Urban Environment categories.
Chief executive of Limerick City and County Council Pat Daly said that the award wins are fitting recognition for the work of that the teams have put in.
“Supporting sustainable communities, promoting economic development and enhancing our urban environment are key pillars for the future of Limerick and we are proud to have been recognised for our work in these areas.”
He said that the Housing team are delighted with their award and that the provision of starter new build homes at a discount will make a real difference to Limerick households who have limited prospect of getting onto the housing ladder at the moment.
Speaking of the Active Travel Team, he said that the new greenway is helping in encouraging walking and cycling by the very nature of its location, linking places of work and education to homes and to community services and recreational facilities.
“Winning the Excellence in Local Government Award for Promoting Economic Development is just recognition for the collaboration shown by the owners and managers of the 19 Hubs that make up the ENGINE HUBS NETWORK. ENGINE HUBS are now a key part of our enterprise support ecosystem and this win will make the network even stronger," said Mike Cantwell Head of Enterprise Limerick Enterprise Office.
Also on the night, “HOUSE! An open air aerial spectacle” won an award in the Sustaining the Arts category.
HOUSE! was a fun-filled spectacle with circus, theatre and drive-in bingo. This show was commissioned by Clare County Council in partnership with Galway County Council and Limerick City and County Council.
