Over 5,000 confirmed Covid-19 PCR cases in region in last fortnight

MORE than 5,000 Covid-19 cases from PCR tests have been confirmed in the region across the last 14 days.

The figures, revealed by the Department of Public Health Mid-West come as the total daily number of new cases of coronavirus from these tests numbers 5,940.

In addition, yesterday, a further 6,620 people registered a positive antigenic test through the HSE portal.

There has now been a total of 6,228 deaths related to Covid-19 notified in Ireland since the onset of the pandemic.

This includes 92 deaths newly notified in the past week.

As of eight o’clock this morning, some 630 Covid-19 patients were in hospital, of which 65 were being treated at intensive care wards across the State.
