Limerick councillor expresses concern over daycare centre

Cllr Seamus Browne is concerned services at St Ita’s Voluntary Housing and Day Care Centre in Abbeyfeale will be cut when the Community Employment scheme ends

ABBEYFEALE councillor Seamus Browne has reiterated his concern that services at St Ita’s Voluntary Housing and Day Care Centre in the town will be cut when the Community Employment scheme finishes this Friday.

“The clock has run down on the CE scheme at St Ita’s,” Cllr Browne said this week. “I am very concerned that no solution has, so far, been arrived at.”

The Limerick Leader understands that a meeting called by officials in the Department of Employment and Social Affairs last week in a bid to try and find a way out of the dilemma did not go ahead.

“My continuing concern is that the services will be lost and that the people who rely on those services will suffer as a result. These services play an important role in combatting rural and social isolation and in many cases, offer the only social outlet to some users.

“The people in question are fining it very difficult to understand why these services are being lost or at risk.”

“I have advised St Ita’s to talk to West Limerick Resources and they are at present in talks,” Cllr Browne said. “I am hopeful there will be some kind of solution but I am not confident there will be.”
