Nuns on the run: The Holy Shows’ Evelyn O’Dea, Yvonne O’Callaghan, Eibhlin O’Dea and Susan O'Brien do their best Beatles impression
THERE won’t be a sinner left in Kilmallock this Friday night as they will either be on stage or in the audience in the Charleville Park Hotel.
Kilmallock Lip Sync Battles has captured the imagination of those from near and far. Money has even been raised from as far as away as Australia. Scoil Mocheallóg primary school and Kilmallock GAA club are co-hosting the event to raise monies for the state-of-the-art new school, and club.
GAA stars, teachers and parents have been rehearsing their performances for months. Michael O’Connor, principal, said they will be doing everything from pop and rock to hip-hop and country and western.
“The purpose of this major fundraising initiative is to raise funds for the day-to-day running of the school. With insurance and energy costs alone amounting to €30,000 annually we are constantly challenged to meet the school’s financial commitments. We are joining with Kilmallock GAA to run this event as a joint venture,” said Mr O’Connor.
And judging by the success of Kilmallock GAA’s recent A League of their Own fundraiser in Bulgaden Castle they are experts in running a superb event. The club caters for almost 180 players from U6 right up to senior and in the last number of years they have been very successful in a number of grades.
The lip sync acts are the The Candy Girls - Marie Connery, Joanne Connery, Elaine Connery, Laura Earls. Destiny’s Wannabes - Rayna Tsang, Trudi Murphy, Jenny Enright. D’Icons - Jane Higgins Sheedy, Finbar Walsh. ManMelons - Aidan O’Riordan, Eddie Cronin. Balbec Queens - Kevin O’Mahony, Willie Stapleton, Robbie Egan, Liam Walsh.
The Great Pretenders - Liz O’Mahony, Roisin Howard, Ciara Moloney, Sinead Moloney, Aileen Magner. 4 and a half men - Brendan Hedderman, Conor Staunton, Dan Joy, Phelim O’Reilly, Michael Houlihan. Footloose Ladies - Kelly McHugh, Danielle McCarthy, Becky Sheehan, Debbie Ryan. The Holy Shows - Evelyn O’Dea, Yvonne O’Callaghan, Eibhlin O’Dea, Susan O'Brien. Double Trouble – Teresa O’Reilly, Christina Murphy. The Irish Abroad – Frank Stapleton, Sweeney Todd, Aoife O’Shea.
As well as the 11 acts a new mystery duo have been added to the line-up in recent days. All organisers will reveal is that they are “two legends”.
A photo has been leaked online but as the Rubberbandits impersonators have shopping bags on their heads it is impossible to make them out. The only way to find out is to be in the Charleville Park Hotel this Friday night, March 29. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm. Tickets, €20. It is a night not to be missed!

Kilmallock GAA Club and Scoil Mocheallóg are deeply appreciative of the public’s support in the past “and we look forward to your wholehearted support of this exciting fundraising event”.
