LOCALS in Ballyneety got a sneak preview of new facilities that will be officially open for use by the end of March.

A community hub and all weather astroturf pitch are Ballyneety Community Development Association’s (BCDA) latest two initiatives.  It was established in 2016 to plan and execute defined initiatives for the benefit of the Ballyneety community – and they have delivered. The two projects, located on the grounds of Ballyneety Golf Club, are intended for use by members of the local community and surrounding hinterland, in a bid to “grow, nurture and maintain a strong community spirit”.

The 1,500 sqft facility is home to office “hot desk” spaces, a meeting room, kitchen area and a large multi-purpose room. It will cater for meetings, social activities and sports activities. The state-of-the-art all weather astroturf pitch, located just metres from the community hub, will see sport enthusiasts display their skills.

An encouraging number of community members, representatives from Ballyhoura Development board and Limerick City and County Council attended the “soft launch” with everyone in agreement that the facilities had far exceeded expectations.

Including the walking track, which opened in May 2017, this brings the total number of initiatives implemented by the BCDA to three. This was made possible by a very generous private donation, support from Ballyhoura Development CLG, with funding under the Leader programme and numerous hours of voluntary work. Over €600,000 has been invested.

While the facilities are nearing completion, the journey is just commencing in terms of fundraising for the final fit out and all donations are gratefully appreciated. A Go Fund Me page has been set-up, called Ballyneety community indoor centre and pitch
fit out.

The hub and pitch are expected to be officially open for use by the end of March.

The BCDA welcomes all local support and looks forward to seeing the community spirit of Ballyneety grow from strength to strength.
