GARDAI have issued a fresh appeal for information about the murder of a father-of-two who was shot and killed on the outskirts of Limerick city 14 years ago.

The body of David Nunan, 25, from O’Malley Park, Southill was discovered near a house in Parteen in the early hours of October 28, 2005.

While a number of people have been arrested and questioned about the killing, nobody has every been charged and brought before the courts.

Speaking during an appeal on RTÉ’s Crimecall, David’s mother, Mary, said the past 13 years have been extremely difficult.

“It tore my family to pieces because he was the only male left in my family,” she said. “It is unimaginable, it’s heartbreaking because you are wondering is there really justice out there?” she added.

David’s younger sister, Sinead, is appealing to anyone with information about her brother’s murder to come forward.

“I totally believe the answers are out there and that justice will be gotten eventually. If anybody knows anything or has any information just come forward – just anything will help,” she said.

Speaking on Monday’s programme, Inspector Helen Costello said gardai believe David Nunan travelled to the Parteen area after he received a phone call.

“He was at home at O’Malley Park and in the early hours he received a phone call and he indicated to his friends he was gong out for a spin and he left a spin,” she said.

Gardai have established he travelled across the city in a wine-coloured Toyota Carina and are appealing to anyone who has information about the car or its occupants to contact them.

In particular she said gardai are appealing to anybody with information who, for whatever reason, have not come forward to date.

Gardai at Henry Street can be contacted at (061) 212400.
