LIMERICK has been largely ignored in festival funding announced by Failte Ireland this Wednesday, claimed Deputy Niall Collins.

“It's a complete disgrace,” he said.

“We see that the government has allocated €3 million to fund festivals across the country yet Limerick is only to receive a paltry €7,000 which equates to less than 1% of the total amount being given out," continued Deputy Collins.

The Fianna Fail TD said only one festival in County Limerick is being funded while many other worthy and established festivals are being ignored.

“Why is this? Why is the government and Failte Ireland turning its back on the many festivals and festival committees doing invaluable work around Limerick,” asked Deputy Collins.

The only County Limerick recipient in the list is Foynes Air Show who will receive €7,000. The largest allocation of €950,000 went to the St Patrick's Festival in Dublin. Galway International Arts Festivals received the second highest of €300,000.
