SINCE Ireland voted in favour of same-sex marriage  the interest in civil ceremonies has been phenomenal, according to Limerick model agent Celia Holman Lee.

The style gury, who is preparing to host one of the biggest bridal events in the country this weekend, says same-sex couples are now much more confident in publicly declaring their love for one another, and have been coming “in their droves” to the bridal exhibition since Ireland voted to legalise same-sex marriage in 2015.

“They’ve arrived in their droves in the last few years and we welcome them with open arms. There would be an equal amount of interest from both sexes,” Celia explained.

Now in its 18th year, the Mid West Bridal Exhibition takes place  in the University of Limerick Sports Arena, Castletroy this Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon featuring over 100 local exhibitors.

“My husband Ger and I started the exhibition because we noticed at the time that everybody from this area was travelling to Dublin which was the only place hosting such an exhibition at the time.

“Now everything is under the one roof here in Limerick and I would like to thank all the local businesses for getting behind it each year and supporting it,” said Celia.

One of the big attractions this year is the special guest Michelle Regazolli known as Mrs Makeup.

“It was a big coup to get her. Makeup, hair and nails - anything to do with beauty is almost as important as the dress now,” Celia explained.

Exhibitors  showcasing on both days include hotels, jewellers, stationers, wedding cars, hairdressers,  wedding cakes, bands,  fashion boutiques and the Brown Thomas Beauty Bar.

There will also be a number of style talks and fashion shows as well as a tea room in the venue and musical entertainment on both days.

Doors open at 12pm and the event runs until 6pm. Tickets are priced at €10. See midwestbridalexhibition.ie for more details and times.
