History Makers: Limerick hurling book by Leader team making waves across the world

A SPECIAL souvenir publication on Limerick’s unforgettable All-Ireland victory is being lapped up by readers in living rooms and kitchens around the globe.

Limerick 2018 History Makers, published by the Limerick Leader and which went on sale last week, has been finding a good home across the continents with relatives here at home sending it to their loved ones just in time for Christmas.

“We are delighted with the response we’ve been getting,” said Eugene Phelan, editor Limerick Leader.

“It’s heartwarming to have calls and emails coming into the Leader office from people in places like London, New York and even Japan asking for a copy to be sent their way. We had one man willing to drive up from Killarney just to get his hands on a copy,” Mr Phelan added.

The 156-page publication takes readers on the rollercoaster of emotions experienced by Limerick hurling fans during the summer of 2018 before the Liam MacCarthy Cup was finally in the hands of captain Declan Hannon on August 19 after a 45 year wait.

It includes all the match reports from the thrilling end-to-end action-packed 2018 Championship campaign along with exclusive interviews with players, backroom team and county board members.

There’s also extensive coverage of all the key moments since the historic victory including splendid photographs and reports from each of the homecoming celebrations along with magical insights into what the return of the Liam MacCarthy Cup means to the people of Limerick.  

“The Liam MacCarthy cup has, at this stage, been to almost every club in the county and city and we were there to capture the joyful scenes. It’s really in years to come when we will look back, that we will really appreciate what the win meant for the people of the county and city, and, hopefully, this publication will be dusted off now and again for a nice stroll down memory lane,” Mr Phelan added.
