GARDAI in Limerick are warning retailers and businesses of an increase in the number of counterfeit notes being seized in the city. 

The most recent detection was made in recent days when a fake €50 note was passed in a shop.

“It must have looked very real as the dud was only discovered when the cash was being counted at the close of business,” said a garda spokesperson.

Gardai are advising retailers “to use the pen to confirm that it is legitimate tender”.
