Six youth organisations in Limerick to receive €23,000 in LGBTI+ funding

SIX youth organisations in Limerick will receive funding to improve understanding and ability to engage with LGBTI+ young people.

The organisations will receive a total of €23,000 in funding for LGBTI+ services, which has been welcomed by Senator Maria Byrne.

Senator Byrne said: “This funding will help implement evidence-based training, mentoring, coaching, Continuous Professional Development (CPD) initiatives and development of guidelines targeted at professional service providers and youth services.

“This training and guidance will include a particular focus on trans and gender-related issues,” the Fine Gael senator added.

The organisations set to receive the funding are: 

- Northside Family Resource Centre, Ballynanty: €3,770

- Southill Hub (Southill Area Centre) €3,440

- Our Lady of Lourdes Local Education Committee, Ballinacurra Weston : €3,500

- Limerick Youth Service €3,140

- GOSHH - €6,000

- Blue Box creative Arts Therapy Centre €3,000

“I’d like to commend my colleague, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Catherine Zappone, for recently launching the world's first LGBTI+ National Youth Strategy,” said Senator Byrne.

“This funding now shows how serious both the Minister and Fine Gael are in our mission to ensure that Ireland is the best country in which to grow up.

“I am delighted that hard work is already in motion we are on the road to making a real and positive difference to young lives.”
