The Shannon Paddlers – launched on Sunday, May 13 - motto is wellness on the water
A NEW club – Shannon Paddlers - will be launched in association with O'Brien's Bridge Community Group this Sunday, May 13 at 2.30pm in the village.
It promises to be an exciting afternoon of family fun and thanks to Shannon Dragons and GetWest there will be free water-based activities from dragonboating to kayaking.
Brid O'Connell, chairperson Shannon Paddlers, said the Shannon Dragons was formed last year to help women recovering from breast cancer.
“However, it soon became apparent that the health benefits of being out on the water are not just for breast cancer survivors but for everyone,” said Brid.
Hence the Shannon Paddlers was created and they want to bring the health benefits of paddling to the whole community so that “everyone can experience the huge joy of being out on the water”.
“Our motto is wellness on the water and we have had a great welcome from community groups and individuals in O'Brien's Bridge and Montpelier and support and encouragement from Clare Local Development Company, Waterways Ireland and Healthy Ireland,” said Brid.
Come along to the launch on Sunday to find out more.
