A LIMERICK city cat has had to use one of its nine lives this afternoon, when it was chased up an electricity pole by some dogs.

The frightened feline got such a shock while being chased on Rossa Avenue this Monday, that it ran upwards - to a height of more than 30 foot.

A bystander, who made a call to Limerick Animal Welfare for help, said that the distressed cat would need significant purr-suasion to come down, and may even need to be rescued by the emergency services.

ESB workers were notified about a possible rescue operation on the high voltage electricity wires, upon which the cat was sitting.

However it was unclear whether or not workers were needed, as the cat had escaped from its perch a short time later.
