Michael Noonan will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Clayton Hotel this Thursday
FORMER Minister for Finance Michael Noonan will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Limerick Person of the Year Awards 2017 this Thursday.
The political life of the Limerick city TD who served as minister for finance from 2011 until 2017 will be celebrated at a gala awards lunch in the Clayton hotel.
Deputy Noonan will be introduced to guests at the awards by his good friend Tim O’Connor.
Tim, a native of Killeedy, has had a distinguished career as a diplomat and public servant at national and international level and has also made a valued contribution to his native Limerick.
Deputy Noonan was first elected to the Dáil in 1981 and has held a number of senior cabinet positions including leader of Fine Gael between February 2001 and May 2002.
He will be joined by a number of close family and friends at the awards.
The recipient of the Limerick Person of the Year 2017 award will also be revealed this Thursday.
There are 12 outstanding candidates for the prestigious award.
This year’s 12 monthly award recipients cover a broad spectrum of accomplishments, ranging from excellence on the sporting field, to community endeavours which make a positive impact on local society, to those who make an invaluable contribution to policing, business, and entertainment in the Mid-West region.
Eugene Phelan, managing editor of the Limerick Leader, said that the annual ceremony was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the unsung heroes from the city and county, who work for the greater good of Limerick.
“Each of them are, in their own unique way, a shining example of what the true spirit of Limerick is all about.”
The awards ceremony will be compered by RTE’s Petula Martyn and Lorcan Murray.
The awards are proudly sponsored each year by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern and the Clayton Hotel.
