Spin's Fully Charged show, featuring presenters Meghann Scully and Ed Roche, will broadcast for 28 hours from Bank of Ireland on O'Connell Street
SPIN South West is to broadcast a marathon breakfast special for 28 hours straight in Limerick this week in aid of Focus Ireland.
The Fully Charged show, featuring presenters Ed Roche and Meghann Scully, will stay live for 28 hours at Bank of Ireland’s Workbench on O’Connell Street to raise awareness and much needed funds for the homeless charity.
The duo have, according to Spin station manager Nessa McGann, "vowed that no sleep or breaks will be had" during the marathon broadcast.
Spin will have a pop-up studio in the Workbench facility from 6.45am on Thursday to Friday at 10.45am, with loads of live guests and guest contributors popping in to lend a hand and raise much needed funds and end the trauma of homelessness in the region.
“We’re delighted to be involved with Focus Ireland this year – it’s our first time doing such a long broadcast by one team and they have vowed that no sleep or breaks will be had in order to raise funds and awareness for Focus Ireland," said Nessa McGann.
"Christmas is a great time to give back and we promise great craic and as always – the best music on the airwaves for this marathon broadcast," she added.
All funds raised from the campaign will support Focus Ireland's services in the region and Rebecca Reynolds of the charity said it would “raise much-needed funds for all the families, children and young people that we help that we help through our various services in the Mid-West.
"There are over 8,300 people homelessness in Ireland and nearly 700 of those are coming Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Kerry. This Christmas we will have over 3,000 children living in emergency accommodation across Ireland. It’s a shocking situation and the figures get worse and worse every year.
"At Focus Ireland we believe that homelessness is wrong and work to find a lasting way out of homelessness for those impacted by the crisis and the funds Spin South West listeners donate this year will be a huge support to those that need our help," she added.
Every donation is appreciated and there are numerous ways to donate – for information see www.spinsouthwest.com.
