LIMERICK woman Mary Downes grabbed more than €500 worth of Christmas shopping for free in a Christmas trolley dash at Lidl.

Mary, from Brookville Avenue, managed to grab €505.70 worth of goodies at Lidl Caherdavin as part of the festive Supermarket Sweep style competition, which raised nearly €8,000 in Limerick for children’s charity Barretstown.

Every Lidl store right across the country offered one raffle winner the chance to dash around the store, with the lucky contestant given two minutes to grab as many Christmas goodies as possible.

Tickets for €1 were on sale at Lidl checkouts and all proceeds went to Barretstown, raising €260,720 in total nationally – €7,777 of which came from Limerick stores.
