EMERGENCY services have cleared the scene of a road accident on the outskirts of the city.

The alarm was raised shortly after 1.20pm today when a car left the road while travelling between Newport Roundabout and Castleconnell Roundabout.

The vehicle – a convertible – travelled down steep embankment and had to be removed by crews using specialist equipment.

There are no reports of any injuries and the car has now been removed from the area.

Gardai and three units of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene of the accident for over an hour.

The road remained open throughout the recovery operation.
