Dramatic river rescue staged in Limerick

A WOMAN in her 40s was rescued from the River Shannon by firefighters yesterday evening.

She was seen entering the water at Steamboat Quay by fire service staff who were carrying out routing checks on its ‘Fireswift’ boat.

As a result of this, they were on the scene within 30 seconds.

Firefighters entered the water and brought the woman to safety.

She was removed to the University Hospital Limerick where her injuries are not life threatening.

The gardai were also in attendance.
