Busy night for Limerick Fire and Rescue service

Limerick Fire and Rescue service attended a number of incidents overnight

A WOMAN sustained leg injuries after she entered the river Shannon near Curraghower Falls in the early hours of this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 1am and within minutes members of Limerick and Rescue service were deployed and the FireSwift rescue boat launched.

The woman, whose aged in her 30s, was quickly removed from the water and treated at a nearby slipway before being handed over to HSE paramedics.

Separately, fire crews attended two large gorse fires in County Limerick overnight.

Units from Rathkeale and Newcastle West attended a gorse fire at Knockfierna, Ballingarry while one unit from Abbeyfeale attended a separate gorse fire at Cratloe East, Athea.

Both fires started at around 11.30am with fire services remaining on site until after 2am.
