WITH iconic songs from David Bowie, John Legend and others, a musical taking to the stage this week will bring SpongeBob and its characters to life.

MIDAS (Mary Immaculate Dramatic Art Society) will perform The SpongeBob Musical from March 12-14 in the Lime Tree Theatre.

Michael Young is the musical director, Bróna McGlinchey is director, Shauna Byrne is assistant director and Emily Flynn is choreographer.

Bróna hails from Kilfinane and is a fourth year student studying to be a primary school teacher, but has always had a love for theatre.

“I've been involved in MIDAS for the past four years, I was in the production in first year, in second year I co-directed and delighted to be director this year,” Bróna said.

Speaking about what people can expect from the show, Bróna said that people will recognise a lot of the songs.

“The music is fantastic, it's so cool. The whole show has massive energy and there are lots of dance numbers with tap dancing, there are roller skates - the show has everything,” Bróna said.

The musical promises to bring iconic songs, vibrant dance numbers and lots of energy to the stage, over the course of the two days with matinee shows for younger school students and evening shows.

They are leading 29 cast members in the production, which has been in the making since before Christmas.

The show was picked at Halloween and the production team was put together.

Auditions were then held in November, a boot camp in January and then a rigorous six-week rehearsal programme.

“It's really come together, the cast are incredible.”
