LIMERICK’S local authority has issued a warning to motorists travelling on from Abbeyfeale to the city to exercise caution due to an oil spill measuring 60km in length.
Limerick City and County Council said it was “advising motorists to exercise caution due to a 60 kilometre long oil spill from Abbeyfeale in West Limerick to Limerick city”.
Council crews and Limerick Fire and Rescue Service are working to deal with the incident.
It is believed that the oil emanated from the back of a truck leaving Abbeyfeale, with the trail stretching the whole way into the city and out the Condell road, heading towards Clare.
"The fire service is doing its best to make the road safe, but motorists should take caution as the spill streteches 60 kilometres," said a spokesperson for Limerick City and County Council.
