Students behind the production at John the Baptist Community School
JOHN the Baptist Community School are preparing to present their 2025 TY production of “Grease: the Musical”.
The show will be presented by students of the Hospital school on Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15 at 7.30pm, and will celebrate 25 years of the school's TY productions.
The familiar story follows Georgie Ryan O’Sullivan as Sandy and Roan McCaffrey as Danny as they figure out love, friendships and the adventures of teenagers in the 1950s, all to the soundtrack of the iconic songs of that decade.
The cast are led by their producers, Ms Geraldine McNulty, Ms Richelle Hurley and Ms Naomi Nevin.
Ms McNulty highlights some of the extra challenges they faced this year in the final weeks of preparation: “We have a very gifted and enthusiastic cast of more than seventy transition year students who have embraced 1950’s music, fashion and dancing. They have been busy rehearsing (and) are excited to take to the stage and entertain their family and friends. We are very proud of the commitment they have shown as they honed their singing, dancing and drama skills despite snow storms, gales and loss of electricity!”.

Four members are 6th year students, having successfully balanced the pressures of their final year with their involvement in the orchestra.
There is a large team contributing to the productions, with the Costume Design class creating the outfits for the performers, the Stage Design and Construction classes working to create the American high school set, the school orchestra will accompany the cast during their performances, and the Media Production team have been promoting the show through posters and activities around the school.
Principal Rachel Hayes expressed the school’s gratitude to the sponsors, “Our musical could not run successfully without you all – local businesses that support the school, the cast and the show.”
