Two Limerick politicians put on Fianna Fáil ticket for general election

The sitting TD and local area councillor are both expected to poll well

AT A party selection convention chaired by MEP Billy Kelleher last night, sitting TD Niall Collins and councillor for the Adare-Rathkeale area, Bridie Collins, were both selected to represent Limerick for Fianna Fáil in the upcoming general election. 

Deputy Niall Collins was first elected to Limerick City and County Council for the Bruff area in 2004. 

He became a TD when elected to Dáil Éireann three years later in 2007. 

The Patrickswell man worked as an accountant before entering politics. 

Deputy Collins is the Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and is also the spokesperson for justice and equality for Fianna Fáil.

Cllr Bridie Collins was first elected to the Adare-Rathkeale area in 2019. 

Originally from Donegal, the councillor who lives in Adare has been heavily involved in the tidy town group in the town. 

In this year's local elections, Cllr Collins retained her seat on the sixth count after being just two counts away in the previous count.
