Dan Sheehan of The Devon Inn Hotel, RIP
THE LATE Dan Sheehan who died yesterday has been described as a gentleman, a man of great wit and intellect and as someone who was at the heart of Templeglantine, where himself and his family ran The Devon Inn Hotel.
He is survived by his sister Anne and brothers William and Maurice, who he ran the hotel with.
Fine Gael Councillor Liam Galvin was a friend of the family and he said the feeling of loss in the hotel this morning was palpable, as the staff were “lonesome for Dan.”
He described him as being part of the furniture and how he always had great support from and for his brothers.
Mr Sheehan suffered from a visual impairment and Cllr Galvin said that whenever he needed to be anywhere, one of his brothers always brought him and likewise if they needed to go somewhere, he would take care of business at the hotel.
“It was very nice to see it,” Cllr Galvin told Limerick Live.
He added that he never let his problems with his sight stop him from doing anything or hold him back and that he would have done a lot of the stock ordering and dealt with a lot of the reps over the years.
“He was the life and soul of The Devon Inn - even the night before he died, he was behind the bar in the hotel,” Cllr Galvin said.
The brothers are all racing enthusiasts and had planned to go to the Galway Races this week, but that was not to be.
“The Devon Inn is the heart and soul of Templeglantine and the Sheehan family are the heart and soul of the village and the GAA, not only in Glantine, but further afield, even in my own parish in Abbeyfeale,” Cllr Galvin said.
“Dan was larger than life, very funny, and intelligent and his wit was second to none.
“He came from one of the most respected families and was known countrywide.

“He was a gentleman and a friend to everybody - he had very few enemies, if any.
“Glantine is after losing a serious character in Dan Sheehan,” Cllr Galvin said.
Mr Sheehan will repose in Harnett’s Funeral Home in Abbeyfeale (V94AK44) on Wednesday (July 31) from 5pm until 8pm.
Removal from his home on Thursday to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Templeglantine, to arrive for Requiem Mass at 11am, followed by burial in Monagea Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family have asked for donations to Fighting Blindness in memory of their brother and donations can be made online here.
May he Rest in Peace
