EI Electronics has teamed up with Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) in order to launch a new scholarship.

Based in Shannon, Ei, which manufactures residential fire and carbon monoxide detection products, has awarded two TUS students with support in their college course.

Named the Ei Ascent Scholarship, it is aimed at students from a range of disciplines, including business management, accounting, economics, law, engineering and science.

The first two recipients of the award are Darragh O’Callaghan from Shannon and Maria Coca, of County Tipperary.
The scholarship will offer both an opportunity to complete their co-operative placement with Ei Electronics and quality for the graduate programme at the firm’s headquarters at the Shannon Industrial Estate.

Meanwhile, Ei is also continuing its support for students at University of Limerick (UL).

This year marks the fifth time the company has run its annual women in engineering scholarship in conjunction with the college.

As a result of that, UL student Eimear Scally became the fifth recipient of this scholarship.

Like the two recipients from TUS, she will have a chance to work in Ei on a co-operative basis then qualify for its graduate programme.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Ei Electronics remains steadfast in its mission to proactively address gender imbalances with the industry, inspired by the statistics that in 2018, only 16% of engineering graduates in Ireland were women which made up only 12% of professionals in industry. This trend continues across many other science, technology, engineering and maths courses with which Ei actively hire.”
