Major traffic and litter control plans announced ahead of Limerick hurling match

MAJOR litter control and traffic management plans will be in place for Limerick’s must win encounter with Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship at TUS Gaelic Grounds this Sunday.

Limerick City and County Council are encouraging supporters and local businesses to demonstrate their Limerick pride and be champions of the environment by helping to keep the streets and properties free of litter.

The Council will be providing up to 40 additional 110L bins in the city and along the routes to TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Additional street cleaning will also take place across the weekend to ensure Limerick looks it’s best and maintains a welcoming environment.

A number of very significant road closures will be in effect from 2pm on Sunday with match goers advised to travel early into Limerick city to make the most of the pre-match atmosphere and avoid delays caused by heavy traffic.

Limerick City and County Council, An Garda Síochana and Limerick County GAA Board advise patrons to be parked at least one hour before match start time and to use official match day car parks, city centre off street car parks and free on street facilities.

The council are also advising motorists that roads near the TUS Gaelic Grounds will be closed from 2pm onwards including Sarsfield Bridge, Shelbourne Road, Lower Shelbourne Road and the Ennis Road from Henry Street to (Ivan’s/Laya) Caherdavin Cross.

Traffic will be diverted to the Northern Ring Road, Clonmacken, Shannon Bridge and Thomond Bridge.

Rolling Road Closures/diversions are likely to apply from 2pm to 9pm at the following locations:

- Ennis Road at its junction with Ivan’s Cross - traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken
- Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction - Road Closure
- Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue - Road Closure
- Union Cross - Closed to traffic outbound on Ennis Road
- Shelbourne Park/Shelbourne Road - Road Closure
- Shelbourne Road/Mayorstone Drive - Road Closure
- Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Avenue - Road Closure
- Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper - Road Closure
- Old Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper & T.U.S Roundabout (Merval Pk.) - Road Closure

Public bus routes will be kept running for as long as is possible up to match events at An Garda Síochána’s discretion
