A YOUNG Erasmus student who was attacked in her student accommodation was allegedly punched three or four times in the face.

On May 8, 2024, at around 4.15pm, a University of Limerick (UL) Erasmus student in Kilmurry Village student accommodation entered her bedroom and noticed that some things had moved and that her bedroom window was wide open.

A man, identified in Limerick District Court, as Martin Morey, of no fixed abode, allegedly threw the young woman onto the bed and then onto the floor and she received three or four punches to the face. Her face was cut near her eye and she had serious facial injuries, which required hospital treatment, the court heard.

The court, sitting this Monday (May 20, 2024), heard that a mobile phone and €55 in cash were taken.

On May 8, 2024, a UL student saw Morey discard a jacket in a ditch and felt that he looked suspicious. He took video footage on his phone, which was given to gardaí. The jacket was obtained which allegedly had the young woman’s blood on it.

Judge Patricia Harney was satisfied with garda evidence and refused bail.

Morey was remanded in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again this Tuesday (May 21, 2024) and DPP directions are awaited.
