A MEELICK photographer is celebrating this week after winning his photographic society’s top prize.
Aidan Ryan was named the photographer of the year at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Limerick Camera Club which took place at Mary Immaculate College in the city centre.
The club’s new chairman Des Crowley, who lives in the city centre, says Aidan has “gone from strength to strength” in the club across the last few years.
He was runner-up in the same contest last year, but went one better this time.
“He did an amazing job at entering his images this year,” Des said. Aidan specialises in portrait photography and sports photography.
Newly-elected club public relations officer Brendan Crowe, a former press photographer said: “He is good. He has been our runner-up several times. So it's great he's won it this year. He's been threatening to win it for the last few years.
“I've not been out in the field with him as such, but we go down to the Saltee Islands in Wexford every year to take pictures of the puffins. He has a very big lens - 300 milimetres at least. He's keen on natural photography,” said Brendan.
Fellow members John Edgeworth and Conor Noonan were victorious in their grades.
Aidan was joined in the winners’ enclosure by two runners up at the club’s annual meeting.
John Edgeworth and Conor Noonan were also victorious in their grades.
