ALL ROADS lead to Limerick this weekend as the landmark 20th staging of Riverfest take place.

There are almost 60 events planned for the May Bank Holiday as the national spotlight focuses on the Treaty City.

The city is indeed the place to be as the flagship festival takes place on the banks of the Shannon.

Arthur’s Quay Park is to be transformed into the Riverfestival village from lunchtime on Friday.

Throughout the weekend, it will play host to artisan food and craft stalls, street performances, and live musical entertainment.

For a thrilling way to see the River Shannon, there will also be a zipline set up over the water.

The ever-popular panoramic wheel will move to the Potato Market, where stunning 360-degree views of the city can be taken in. The Hunt Museum’s garden will host giant games.

The first showpiece event of the weekend gets under way in Gardens International at Henry Street from 7pm on Friday, with local fashion icon Celia Holman Lee showcasing Limerick’s latest fashions.

Then, in a new addition to the calendar this year, a giant-winged Pegasus will stalk the streets of Limerick in a spectacular display as night falls on Friday from 9.30pm.

On Saturday morning, Howley’s Quay will once again play host to the popular barbecue competition.
The same area will see a street party that night.

For car enthusiasts, a unique display of special vehicles and memorabilia will be on display at St Mary’s Cathedral throughout Saturday.

Then on Sunday, the city’s streets will turn into an athletics track, as tens of thousands of people take part in the Regeneron Great Limerick Run.

Sunday night will see another fabulous spectacle, as a fireworks display lights up the city sky.

All this is only a small selection of what is happening across Limerick.

Sadly, rain is forecast for times across the weekend, but those attending the celebrations will no doubt hope for a break in the clouds, with temperatures expected to reach a pleasant 16 degrees.
