Limerick music festival nominated for prestigious award

Féile Na Gréine takes place every summer across the city

LIMERICK’S own DIY music festival has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

Féile na Gréine, a local festival of emerging and experimental music, has been shortlisted for the IMRO awards.

The festival has been nominated within the Small Music Festival of the Year category.

The Limerick festival has been recognised amongst other Irish music festivals in this category, such as Other Voices, Beyond the Pale and Another Love Story.

The nomination demonstrates the quality of cultural offerings within Limerick, a city developing a reputation for championing underground Irish music.

Chairperson of Féile na Gréine, Diarmuid Ó Sé, said: "As a community-led effort we are surprised and delighted by the nomination.

“We have always been uncompromising in what we believe a festival can offer audiences, artists and communities and it is great to see our efforts recognised among some of the best festivals in the country.”

Féile na Gréine is a festival of emerging and experimental music, which celebrates art and community in an attempt to provoke moments of joy in spaces and places across Limerick.

Their work is entirely volunteer-led, with a DIY perspective and an unapologetic approach.

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, the festival will showcase four of its bands in London at the Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith on Thursday, March 14.

His Father’s Voice, The Low Field, Laura Duff and The PVP will be performing at the event, which is organised in collaboration with Glór Nua: Next Generation Music.
