SCHOOLBOY friends Shane Dowling and Declan Hannon lifted the Dr Harty Cup together in 2011 for Ardscoil Rís and stood tall on many good and bad days in the green of Limerick.

Now Shane has asked the Limerick hurling captain to "stand" for his and fiancée Paula Donnelly's baby son Tommy.

Photographer Aidan Ryan shared a photo of Tommy Dowling's Christening with proud dad Shane and new godfather Declan on Saturday. Declan was joined at the front of the church by godmother Emma Donnelly, a sister of Paula's.

Tommy was born on December 11 - almost a year to the day after they announced their engagement after a romantic proposal at Adare Manor.

When Shane, aged 30, from Caherdavin asked Declan to be Tommy's godfather the answer was as guaranteed as either men shooting for the posts off their left hand sides.

Shane, who is an operations manager for Ryan's Centra Group and his former Limerick ladies footballer fiancée, were congratulated on social media on their boy's baptism.
