LAYA Healthcare has unveiled plans to expand its health centre at the former Ivan’s general store in Caherdavin.
It comes amid an increase in footfall at the facility at Ennis Road.
The company has submitted the application to expand over two levels.
If approved, it will mean there will be new consultation rooms, a wellness area plus an MRI department.
Laya Healthcare moved onto the landmark site in 2021, following the closure of Ivan’s delicatessen and general store two years earlier.
In a statement, the company said: “An extension of the current clinic in Limerick will enable an expansion of the comprehensive range of health and wellbeing services including walk-in urgent care for the treatment of minor illnesses and injuries with people as young as 12 months old seen and treated within 60 minutes.”
Laya said there’s been a spike in demand in the last year alone, with footfall up more than 36%.
“The proposed new extension will help facilitate the expansion of services such as diagnostic imagine on site including ultrasound, MRI and Dexa scans,” the spokesperson said.
They also confirmed if approved, the expansion will lead to job creation.
Local Fine Gael councillor Olivia O’Sullivan has welcomed the application.
She said: “The Laya clinic has been an important addition to the northside since its arrival. Many people have commented to me on how good they find it, and how beneficial it is to have it in the local community treating injuries and saving trips to University Hospital Limerick.” She said the addition of an MRI would be welcome.
